Table Tennis Table Dimensions
Table tennis table dimension or size is regulated by the ITTF, the International Table Tennis Federation. While regulation sized ping pong tables are required for professional play, there are smaller tables aimed for consumers with confined spaces. For extremely small locations, conversion tabletops are the way to go.
One of the major advantages of table tennis is it requires very little space to play. The table itself, the only major investment needed to get the game going, is small enough to fit in most rooms. I personally like playing in the garage (I have a two car garage) where there is enough space to swing my table tennis paddle without being afraid of smacking a wall.
Table Tennis Table Dimensions
The official ITTF size for table tennis tables is 9 feet long (2.74m), by 5 feet wide (1.54m), and 2.5 feet high (.76m). The net that separates the table into two exact halves is 6 feet long (1.83m) and 6 inches high (.1525m). A white 3 mm line, painted perpendicular to the table tennis net, separates the table into even left and right quadrants. A painted white 2 mm line is also required on the perimeter of the table covering all four sides.
Although most table sold today are regulation size, there are manufacturers that offer slightly smaller sizes for casual players in tighter spaces. When determining if a specific room is suitable for hosting a ping pong table, make sure to leave at least 5 to 6 feet around the table for movement. Ideally, you want to play in larger, open areas with at least 10-20 feet around the table; this is especially true doubles games or matches. Table tennis doesn’t look like an active sport, however, even if you’re mediocre at the game, you’ll be sweating within minutes of playing.
